Window Wonderland Winners Announced!

Well, we tried. We really, really tried.  But as it turns out the windows downtown were just too merry and too loved to select one winner!  1595 votes were cast in-store and online, judges were consulted and they all had the same problem: there were just too many great windows to choose only one.

This year’s Best Overall Winner (as determined by popular vote and a panel of Holiday Experts) is a three way tie:

Cornerstone Canadian Art & Craft (255 Ontario Street):  Says one online voter, “It looks magical with all of the snowflakes! So Canadian!”  Cornerstone really outdid themselves this year with a wonderful winter window of red and white.  Beautiful pieces from the store are displayed to make a lovely scene.

Minotaur Games & Gifts (78 Princess Street):  Minotaur has been runner-up in this competition for years and years and it’s about time they were honoured with the winning spot (even if they have to share!).  Their handmade display with a unique Vegas theme incorporates many of the fun items available for sale inside.  “Minotaur’s window is fun, inviting and festive.  What more do you need to make you want to go inside and do some shopping?”

The Rocking Horse (193 Princess Street):  This window, full of festive sock monkeys, would make Santa and his Elves proud.  “It’s always fun and captures the joy of children at Christmas.  My kids love passing it.” says an online entry to the contest.  There really is nothing like toys during the holidays to appeal to the kid in each of us.

A new downtown storefront also caught the attention of judges and voters.  Ars Libri Hand Bookbinding and Book Restoration Studio along with “roommate” Bookish at 60 Brock Street received the “New Kid On The Block” Award for their very unique window display.  “It feels like a cozy, Christmasy library.”

Take the time to enjoy these and all the beautiful holiday windows downtown when you’re next in the area shopping, eating or visiting with Santa (he’s in the Square every Saturday from 11-2!).  The staff of businesses in the area work so hard to make it a merry place and they have really outdone themselves this year!
