Shinny Hockey

Registration will start half an hour before shinny starts. There is only 24 spots for skaters and 4 for goalies, it is first come first serve.

  • Shinny will be played with a soft puck
  • 5 on 5 hockey (10-13)
  • 4 on 4 hockey (16+)

Participants are asked to obey the following rules to ensure a safe and pleasant shinny experience:

  • Respect staff at all times. When the whistle sounds, listen to and follow staff instructions
  • The puck is not allowed to leave the ice surface (no raised shots)
  • Ice monitors will determine teams, referee the activity and encourage team play. The ice monitors have final say
  • Equal ice time ensures everyone gets the most out of the game. We ask players to self-monitor shifts to a maximum of 3-4 minutes in length.
  • Everyone must wear a CSA approved helmet and gloves (neck protector if under 16 yrs). It is highly recommended that participants wear a full-face mask.
  • Users of City facilities are personally responsible for ensuring that they are fit to participate in physical activities. Anyone with a condition affecting their ability to participate must take appropriate safety precautions to ensure his/her own safety and is encouraged to be accompanied by an adult who is knowledgeable about their condition.

The following activities are not permitted on the ice at any time; such behaviour could result in immediate removal:

  • The use of headsets, cell phones or hand-held electronic devices on ice surface
  • Rough play, foul language or inappropriate behavior
