People of the Big Dig: Jess & Evan from Art Noise

There’s no denying Art Noise is an artist’s haven!  The paints, the paper, the pencil crayons… the colours!  Whether you are a professional artist or dabble in cathartic adult colouring books or the increasingly popular paint nights this is definitely the store for you! Meet Jess & Evan from Art Noise and find out about their family businesses!

What’s your favourite thing about downtown Kingston?

Downtown Kingston has such a great community feel to it and we especially love its vibrant and thriving arts community which we are excited to be a part of!

There’s something really special about having an art supply store that offers locally made supplies – did you know they make the paint they sell! How cool is that? It’s like supporting local x2!

What is your favourite product/service that you offer?

Our favourite products are obviously the Tri-Art paints which we have made here in Kingston for over 25 years.  Our paper selection is another personal favourite - the Japanese and Tibetan papers are gorgeous and super versatile.

After touring through the store, it’s safe to say that all their products are our favourite! The paints, the pencil crayons, the sound room and handmade sound systems are truly works of art!

What is your background?

We both grew up here in Kingston and then moved to Montreal for school.  Evan studied studio art & I studied anthropology.  We moved back last year to work for the family business – Tri-Art mfg. & Art Noise.  When we’re not working we both love to cook! Evan has worked as a cook in some really great Italian restaurants – he makes amazing pasta!

Mild or stinky cheese?

We love a good stinky cheese! We may or may not have bought a brick to eat with some bread in Union Square Park in NYC the last time we were there.  Cheese is a meal, right?

Favourite Café?

Our favourite rainy day café is definitely Small Batch.  Their Americano & their honey chai latte are perfect for dreary days! Plus, they are only two doors down so it’s perfect!
